Egyptian red Sea Town

The Egyptian towns most frequently visited on the Red Sea are: Taba, Nuweiba, Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh on the Sinai Penninsula and Hurghada and Safaga on the West Coast of the Red Sea from which travelers can enjoy beach, diving and sight seeing holidays.

The Sinai Penninsula
Sinai is accessible directly through Sharm el Sheikh International Airport or by road and/or domestic flight through Cairo and other major Egyptian towns.

Tourism first began in the Sinai in the late 1970s. When Egypt reclaimed the Sinai from Israel in 1982 tourism began to grow slowly but steadily throughout the 1980s with more rapid growth thereafter.

Sharm el Sheikh’s international airport currently receives 14 international charter flights per week and 11 domestic flights from Cairo and other major Egyptian destinations. The area is also served by various reasonably priced, efficient bus services.

Taba is an extremely picturesque Egyptian border town where the Sinai meets Israel and Jordan. Taba’s coastline has bays, coves, lagoons, a fjord and an island. There is only one hotel, the Taba Hilton.

Nuweiba, a former fishing village, is a small secluded resort with magnificent beaches honoured by the presence of a friendly dolphin who is only too happy to play with visiting snorkellers.

Dahab, a haven for budget travellers because of its abundant cheap restuarants and basic accommodation in the Bedouin village Assaia. It is also famous for its beautifull sandy beaches and diving sites, in particular Blue Hole and Canyon.

Sharm El Sheikh, the southern tip of Sinai, is particularly popular with diver’s because of the rich variety of diving it offers. A week’s diving from Sharm invariably includes a day at the Straits of Tiran reefs and a day at Ras Mohammed as well as the excellent local, Naama Bay dive sites.

Western Red Sea

Hurghada, a former fishing village is now the main port of entry to the western Red Sea towns. It’s busy international airport is served by a number of domestic and international flights each week. Hurghada is now a highly developed town and is well known for its many and varied dive sites.

Safaga is a small coastal town to the south of Hurghada. It offers only recently frequented dive sites which are therefore in excellent condition. Facilities are still quite basic but comfortable.
